In a unique community marketing initiative Westfield Derby appointed 8¾ year-old, Molly Taylor, to be the shopping centre’s ‘Head of Fun’. Molly competed against over 30 other applicants for the ‘most fun job in town’ and will consult to Westfield on all children’s activities taking place at the centre for 12 months. Molly was awarded the position after impressing the judging panel with her ideas of Christmas face painting, Easter egg hunts and t-shirt design competitions.

Due to the standard of applications being so high, (as well as the large volume of entrants) Westfield Derby also appointed four Deputy Heads of Fun to complement the ‘Panel of Fun’ headed by Molly. During the year, Head of Fun duties included opening Santa’s Grotto and switching on the Christmas lights with UK singer and TV star Stacey Solomon as well as reviewing toys, greeting cartoon characters and offering activity ideas for kids over the school holidays. In return for their expert advice on fun, Molly and the Panel of Fun are paid in gift vouchers and toys throughout the year.

As Westfield Derby’s Head of Fun Molly has been interviewed by a range of local and national media including BBC 2, BBC Derby and the Derby Evening Telegraph.
